Supporting Every Child: Staff Training in Positive Behaviour Approaches

In June, four of our staff team (pictured below) became certified PRICE Trainers—that stands for Protecting Rights In a Caring Environment. This is a big step forward in how we support children and young people.

By September, all our staff will have completed training in the PRICE Principles, which focus on understanding and meeting each child’s needs before challenges arise. The training helps staff:

· Recognise early signs that a child might be struggling—whether physically, emotionally, or through their behaviour.

· Use positive, non-restrictive strategies like distraction, calming techniques, and gentle redirection to prevent situations from escalating.

· Respond safely and respectfully if a child becomes physically distressed, always prioritising the child’s dignity and well-being.

This training is rooted in a person-centred approach, meaning we always look at what each individual child needs to feel safe, understood, and supported.

As a school we are committed to creating a calm, caring, and respectful environment for every child.

Since 1994, PRICE Training has developed a system that is rooted in trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour support that places human rights and the well-being of vulnerable people at the very heart of what we do. We help organisations develop strategies for both planned and unplanned interventions to ensure a safe workplace and improve the quality of life for service users.
