Courtney's Class 2025 - 2026

Summer Term 2

Hello and a very warm welcome back to all children, parents and staff! We hope you enjoyed the half-term break and are excited for our final few weeks of the academic year.

In Courtney’s Class this term, our topic is “If You’re Happy and You Know It!”

In History, we will be focusing on the life and achievements of the famous explorer James Cook. Pupils will have the opportunity to create and use old-fashioned maps and telescopes, just like the Captain! We will then move on to the fascinating world of pirates and explore what life may have been like aboard one of their infamous pirate ships.

In English, we will be looking at newspapers and journalistic writing. We will explore different types of news and how stories are presented across a range of media. The children will then plan, write and present their very own news reports. In poetry, we will continue reading and exploring kennings poems before creating some of our own.

In PE, the children will be developing their athletics skills. Pupils will practise a range of jumping events, including high jump, long jump and triple jump, alongside throwing activities such as javelin and shot put. We will also be working on both sprinting and longer-distance running, helping to prepare us for our Holly Grove Sports Day.

In Food Technology, we will be exploring “Feel Good Foods”. The children will discover a range of comforting and nutritious foods that help us feel happy, healthy and energised. They will have the opportunity to prepare and taste different foods while learning about healthy choices and how food can positively impact our wellbeing.

In Art, we will be creating Mood Masks, linked closely to our PSHE learning about feelings and emotions. The children will explore a variety of emotions and create masks to represent different feelings, using colour, texture and creative design techniques to express themselves.

Throughout the term, our PSHE lessons will focus on understanding and recognising emotions, developing positive relationships and learning strategies to support our wellbeing.

We are looking forward to a fun-filled and exciting final half term and can't wait to share our learning with you.

Please come back soon to see what we have been up to!
