Autumn Term 1 2026

Hello and welcome to Courtney’s Class.

We hope you’ve all had a fantastic summer and are ready for another brilliant year at Holly Grove!

In Courtney’s Class this term our topic is ‘Me, my friends and I’, which means we will be exploring the things that make ourselves and our friends so great, as well as focusing on how we build safe relationships in life. In Science we will looking at ‘Animals including humans’, where we will be looking at animal classification and the human digestive system. In Geography we will be investigating the local area and what it has to offer. We shall be discussing what we enjoy about living around here as well as exploring a multitude of different maps and aerial photos. In P.E, the children will be learning the functional skills needed for striking and fielding sports, such as running, rolling, throwing and catching. The children shall then apply these skills in fun and competitive game situations, including sports such as cricket and rounder’s.

In English, the class will enjoy a number of texts, such as Colour Monster and Fables, particularly ‘The Hare and the Tortoise’ and ‘The Lion Inside’, while also learning how to write diary entries. In Maths we will be practicing our counting and recognising numerals, exploring shapes and begin working with money!
