🍂 Autumn Term 2 – Courtney’s Class
A very warm welcome back to all children, parents and staff! We hope you’ve enjoyed the Autumn festivities so far and are looking forward to the exciting celebrations still to come.
This term in Courtney’s Class, our topics are “Sparks” and “Special Celebrations.”
Our exploration of Special Celebrations is already underway! The children are discovering the origins, meanings and traditions behind events such as Halloween, Bonfire Night, Diwali and Christmas.
In Food Technology, we’re delving into “Celebration Treats”, learning about the delicious foods that accompany different festivities — and, of course, creating some tasty treats of our own!
Over in PE, it’s time to get moving as we put on our dancing shoes! The children will be learning themed dances including the Halloween Skeleton Shake and Bonfire Bop, before stepping back in time to dance like the Tudors — which links perfectly with our History focus this term.
Our “Sparks” theme also runs through Science, where the children are learning all about electricity — how it’s produced, how we use it, and how to create simple electrical circuits. They’ll even experiment with different materials to see which are the best conductors!
In English, our focus is on explanation texts, alongside an exciting dive into various narratives linked to our topic such as ‘Kevin the Carrot and the Christmas Beanstalk!’ Meanwhile, in Maths, we’ll be practising our measuring skills through work on length and weight, and brushing up on our time-telling too!
