Spring Term 2
Hello and a very warm welcome back to all children, parents and staff! We hope you had a wonderful half-term break and enjoyed the slightly brighter weather.
In Courtney’s Class this term, our topic is ‘Walk Like an Egyptian’, inspired by our History focus on the Ancient Egyptians. The children will explore the fascinating lives of this ancient civilisation, learning about pyramids, pharaohs, gods and the mummification process. They will also become expert code-breakers as they learn to read and write mystical hieroglyphics!
This links beautifully with our Art lessons, where the children will be shaping and moulding clay just as the Egyptians did. We are excited to see the ancient Egyptian jewellery designs they create.
In PE, the children will develop new racquet skills that can be applied to sports such as tennis and badminton. They will also take part in competitive volleyball games, learning how to use their bodies effectively to control and return the ball.
Our Science focus this term is ‘Working Scientifically’. The children will carry out a different experiment each week, taking the lead in their learning by selecting variables to change, making predictions and recording results. They will then analyse their findings and explore the relationships they discover.
In English, we will be reading Meet the Egyptians, a non-fiction picture book that introduces children to life in ancient times. Inspired by this, the children will write their own persuasive letters to a Pharaoh.
In Maths, we will begin by strengthening our calculation skills, exploring different methods for addition, subtraction and multiplication. We will then revisit measuring weight, recap our learning on shape and develop our understanding of positional and directional language.
Please check back soon to see what we have been learning this term!
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us via the home–school diary or the class email.
We look forward to a fantastic term ahead 😊
