Phonics Interventions
We have Phonics Intervention groups that take place throughout the week. The sessions support children with their reading skills and also support children who will be sitting their Phonics Screening Test in Yr1 or Yr 2.
The children are grouped with peers of a similar ability. This helps us to support the children at their own individual level.
We have seen great progress being made by all children since the groups began.
We currently have some children who are taking part in a Phonics/Reading Intervention programme called ‘Headsprout’. This is a joint project between the EEF and Bangor University and is the first large scale research aimed at pupils in specialist settings. The children take part in 3 sessions per week. We are already seeing a rise in the progress children have made with their reading skills since we started the programme in October 2021.
