Skittles Science Experiment: Hot vs Cold Water!

This week, the children carried out a colourful science investigation using Skittles to explore how temperature affects dissolving. The class split into two groups: one used hot water and the other used cold water, pouring it onto plates arranged with Skittles in a circle.

They timed the reaction and watched as the colours spread out to create bright, rainbow patterns. The children noticed that the hot‑water group’s colours spread much faster, while the cold‑water group saw the same effect happen more slowly. This helped them understand that heat speeds up dissolving.

Finally, everyone recorded their observations and compared results. The experiment sparked lots of curiosity and produced some very colourful plates!
