Georgia Fourie Butterfly Fund

‘The Georgia Fourie Butterfly Fund was set up in 2009, in conjunction with her parents, in memory of a very special pupil who sadly passed away after many years of bad health. This fund is used to raise money to improve and enhance the lives of our wonderful pupils and has grown from strength to strength over the past few years! As a result of the fund we have purchased new equipment for school, contributed towards our school minibus, taken the pupils on a fantastic residential to Blackpool and set up a helping hand grant to support our families and carers. We received full charity status in December 2015 and have many new exciting ventures in the pipeline to benefit our pupils and their families. Please see the links below to donate towards our charity and to find out more about applying for our Helping Hand grant.

Please see our other pages for news and upcoming events and to see how we are using the money donated.

Nick’s ‘3 for Fourie’ Challenge - 25.06.20

My name is Nick and I am the family support manager at Holly Grove School in Burnley. On the last week of term I will be starting at the base of Pendle Hill and then ascending and descending THREE times and I aim to do this in under THREE hours! I am asking for donations of £3 or more and I would like to raise £300 for the Georgia Fourie Butterfly Fund. This charity does so much for the pupils of Holly Grove School and their families and I would like to do my part in helping to raise some money. The charity has previously provided grants for families in need, funded holiday clubs and residential trips and bought much needed sensory equipment for school.

(If I fail I will donate £3 for every 3 minutes I go over my 3 hour target)

Please give as much as you can to help this wonderful charity. Thanks in advance. To donate please click here

This year’s curry night was held at USHA in Burnley. 49 people attended and the menu consisted of poppadum’s, mixed starter, followed by a choice of curries and rice. We also had a chocolate and bottle tombola on the night. With tickets and tombola sales we raised £480.90. That is £105 more than last year. Here’s to next year’s being even bigger. USHA have also agreed to have one of our charity tubs on the bar as a permanent fixture which hopefully will bring in some more loose change throughout the year.

Georgia’s 18th Birthday Balloon Release - 06.07.17

Today was an emotional day when the pupils at Holly Grove School joined with Georgia’s family to release 100 pink and white balloons with butterflies attached. This was to celebrate Georgia Fourie’s 18th birthday. She may have only been with us until she was 9 but her memory and outlook on life lives on through the charity. Our little charity started in 2009 with just a small group of people fundraising unofficially to a fully registered charity which is making a real difference to the lives of children and their families. I am so proud and honoured to be chair of this charity and humbled to be working in Georgias name with the rest of the trustees. Happy 18th birthday Georgia xxxxx – Eve Taylor – Chairperson

Sue Cycles ‘The London Marathon’ - 03.07.17

A huge well done to Holly Grove’s former Headteacher Sue Kitto. On 26th June Sue biked 26 miles in Burnley Tesco to raise money for the Georgia Fourie Butterfly Fund. We have raised over £600 which is fantastic. Thank you to everyone who came down to Tesco to support us and thank you to everyone who donated.

7 Seater Car - 15.05.17

In July we finally purchased the 7 seater car we had been saving for, for the past two years. The car is a vital asset for us as we can use it to transport children and their families to and from hospital appointments, transport our pupils to sporting events taking place at different schools and take children on trips to the local community. The car has been sign written with our Charity name and logo, with huge thanks to Pam Binder for her contribution.

A huge thank you to the Cycle Factory in Todmorden for their generous donation of £250 (plus gift aid) towards petrol for the year!

Curry Night Fundraiser - 08.02.17

Our Curry Night fundraiser was a great success despite several obstacles at the beginning. We had originally booked the Green Bangla to host our Curry Night but they took our £100 deposit money and closed down without notice. Therefore, we were left without a venue and £100 down. The very kind owner of The Bombay Lounge (now called Suruchi) in Barrowford, offered to host the curry night for the same price, and thanks to a generous donation of £100 from Burnley Hire we were able to cover our losses. Around 45 people came to the Curry Night and we had a chocolate and bottle tombola to raise extra money on the night. We raised £375.45.

Facebook - 03.02.17

Our Charity Facebook page went live this year. We currently have 146 likes but are aiming to get to 200 before Summer. Through social media we have advertised our events and put appeals out for donations. By constantly updating our page we are keeping people informed of our progress and hopefully will have more and more people interested in our events and supporting us as a charity.

Vision for Next Year - 01.01.17

We are hoping to raise money for another Key Stage 1 holiday and hopefully have enough for a Key Stage 2 residential trip.

We are looking at purchasing equipment for our lunch time activity clubs.

We want to purchase some interactive ICT equipment which will be accessible to all pupils.

We want to increase the amount of money to support families and also provide more respite opportunities through funding for holiday clubs, weekend and before and after school clubs.

Thank you for all your support, looking forward to a successful 2017!
Eve Taylor – Chair Person of The Georgia Fourie Butterfly Fund

School Fund - 01.01.17

The Georgia Fourie Butterfly Fund has donated £2000 towards the school fund, to pay for trips out throughout the year and towards Christmas presents for the children.

Helping Hand Grant - 01.01.17

The Helping Hand Grant is awarded twice a year and has helped 15 families this year. We have spent over £1000 and this has gone towards purchasing sensory equipment for use at home, trampolines, sensory dens, musical instruments, a new mattress, sensory toys and driving lessons for parents who are desperate to learn so they can take their child on day trips. We are hoping to help even more parents in 2017.

Newsletters - 01.11.16

This year we created our own charity newsletters to send out to donors, friends and family of the charity and those who want to be updated on our progress. Our first newsletter went out in November to over 200 businesses, 90 parents and over 100 people who signed up to receive charity updates. It was thanks to our appeal for help with petrol in the newsletter that we got a very generous parent contacting us wanting to help us. We are planning for the newsletters to go out twice a year to inform people of our achievements and create more awareness of our charity.

‘Hair Raising’ Charity Night - 28.10.16

Our ‘Hair Raising’ Charity Night was our most successful yet. It was held at the Burnley League Club and we encouraged as many people as possible to come with funny hair styles or wacky wigs. We had a quiz, stand up bingo, pie and peas supper, live music from Ross, a chocolate and bottle tombola, raffle and auction. And not forgetting the staff dance. This year the Holly Grove ladies danced to a medley of songs sung by bald singers, Pitbull, Right Said Fred and Sinead O’Connor to name a few.

Thanks to everyone who helped to make this a successful night, we raised £1746.40. The most we have raised at an annual Charity Night so far! Hopefully the figure will be even more next year.

We must also mention a great big thank you to three very brave ladies, Angie and Susan who are trustees and Joanne who works at School. At the Charity Night these three ladies shaved their hair off to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. They raised just over £1600. Well done ladies we are so proud of you!

Three Peaks Sponsored Walk - 03.09.16

A huge thank you goes to one of our trustees and Holly Grove Family Support Manager, Nick Barrett, who along with Steve Meager, whose daughter Grace attends Holly Grove, James Slattery and Luke Garnett, whose wives work at Holly Grove. The brave men scaled the heights of three mountains over a period of 24 hours to raise money for the Georgia Fourie Butterfly Fund.

On a cold wet weekend in September, the men, driven by Andrew Riley, whos girlfriend also works at Holly Grove, visited Scotland , England and Wales all during a 24 hour period. They then set about climbing Ben Nevis, Scafel Pike and Snowden, at times, in pitch darkness and treacherous conditions to help raise funds for our charity. They achieved this amazing feat in 23 hours and 51 minutes and have managed to raise £1628 (including gift aid) in sponsorship money.

Blackpool Residential Trip – 23/5/16 – 27/5/16 - 23.05.16

The Georgia Fourie Butterfly Fund donated £1000 to fund a Key Stage 1 residential trip to Blackpool for 18 pupils. The children got to stay at the Daisy Chair Project in Blackpool with several members of staff for 2 nights. The children had a fantastic holiday and got to visit Blackpool Tower, the Zoo and the Beach. The children had an amazing time and we were able to give 18 families some well-deserved respite for 2 nights (split over 4 nights). The holiday was a wonderful opportunity to build on their independence and social skills. We can’t wait for another holiday this year and to show the children the time of their lives!

Georgia Fourie Butterfly Ball - 23.04.16

Saturday 23rd April 2016 saw our 2nd annual ‘Georgia Fourie Butterfly Ball’ held at Burnley Football Club organised by Georgia’s Mum, Mel and the trustees. It was another amazing event attended by over 300 people who were treated to a champagne reception, 3 course meal, live music from an Adele tribute followed by a DJ, a raffle, auction and a photobooth. We also had a special visit from two ex-pupils Olivia and Annie who were Georgia’s best friends and who helped to make the evening even more special! Everyone dug deep to help raise money for our charity and we raised just over £14,000!! Thanks so much to Mel and everyone who supported us.
