Upper School Cognition and Learning Groups

Upper School Cognition and Learning Groups

In Key Stage 2 we now have groups which take place each morning (Monday- Thursday). In these groups the children are taught Maths and English with peers of a similar ability. This has enabled us to really challenge all the children at their own individual level. We have already seen a rise in the progress the children have made since starting the groups in September and the children’s confidence with problem solving is coming on leaps and bounds! The children also have opportunities to develop friendships with children from other classes in Key Stage 2.

Key Stage 2 Groups-

Pansies Group- Connor Moffatt

Daisies Group- Julie Aspin

Poppies Group- Danielle Alty

Sunflowers Group- Alex Jardine

On the Groups pages will be a breakdown of what your child will be learning in Maths and English over the next half term. If you are unsure which group your child is in or would like any more information please contact school and ask to speak to Danielle.

Thank you,

Danielle Alty- Assistant Headteacher KS2

Sunflowers

Show Time!

In English, we are exploring the film industry. We will be reading The Jungle Book to rewrite and act out scenes. This is a super exciting topic as the children can use their imagination to make different parts of the story.

In Maths, we will begin with number and place value, and then focus on capacity and volume, 2D and 3D shapes, position and direction and fractions.

Watch out Hollywood, the Sunflowers are on their way!

Please come back and see all of our hard work!

Pansies

Welcome to the Pansies page!

We have an exciting term planned as we work towards a big show on Friday 26th May. During this term we will be designing and creating posters and invitations to advertise our production of the Jungle Book. We will be developing our confidence to play each role and remember our lines.

In Maths, we will look to consolidate and build upon the knowledge and skills gained over the first two terms. We will develop our understanding of measurement through using standard units as well as building our language to describe capacity and volume. We will be using our knowledge of place value to solve addition and subtraction problems using a range of strategies.

Please make sure to come back and look at our fantastic work!

Daisies

Welcome to Julie’s Group Daisies. Spring Term 2 2022

This half term in Maths we will continue working on recognising and forming numbers and adding on one more. We will be looking at fractions – whole, half and quarters and we will be looking at heavy and light when weighing objects.

In English we will be looking at the story “Alice in Wonderland”  We will be exploring  the story by pressing switches to hear sounds and  looking at sensory props related to characters and events in story

Please come back soon to check on our hard work and achievements.

Poppies

The children in Poppies group have continued to learn lots of new skills and concepts this half term!

In English we explored advertisements and created our very own TV Adverts. The children researched previous adverts, jingles and the use of imagery, language and music. They picked a product they would like to advertise and worked in pairs to produce an advert using the iMovie tool. They had great fun whilst learning lots! The children took this further and also designed their own posters advertising their favoured items.

In Maths the children extended their knowledge on division and looked at remainders. During their learning on fractions the children began counting fractions on a number line and began adding fractions to make a whole. Although a few of the boys found this tricky initially they were extremely proud to show off their learning when they started filling in missing number calculations. The children then moved on to learning the 12 and 24-hour clock, again something new which they all took within their stride!

Please see our photos of all our hard work!

Some of our adverts will be appearing on our school Facebook page soon!
